EAA Artist - Jan Knight
As
a young girl, Jan was interested in art. She tried her hand at
drawing and painting. She got involved in more craft type activities
while in high school. Then even took a Life Drawing course in junior
college. In 1994 while taking some medical courses at the local
community college in Northern California, Jan decided to take a
class in ceramics. She got hooked and has been making art from clay
ever since.
Jan enjoys hand building with clay the most, although she can throw
pieces on the wheel. Her preferred technique is to make a slab, then
texture it and start cutting pieces from the slab and building. Then
firing her pieces in a wood fired kiln is the most desirable process
she can think of. Jan uses other firing methods such as Raku`,
Pit-firing, firing in an electric kiln and firing in a gas kiln.
Jan says the most enjoyment she gets from her artwork is when
someone shows an interest and a
ppreciation
for one of her pieces. Her goal is to create whimsical pieces that
evoke a smile or inquisitive expression, hopefully bringing
enjoyment to the viewer.
Jan moved to Elgin, Texas in October 2005 and immediately started
looking for a group of artists to fellowship with. The Elgin Artist
Association was just the group she was looking for. Jan has found
much inspiration and support here and plans to continue working with
the association for a long time. Her work can be seen at Kingfisher
fine Art and Music. If you are interested in purchasing some of
Jan's work, you may
email her directly.
