Meeting handouts: EAA meeting schedule for 2009, Suggested goals 2009, Suggested Committee activities 2009, Arts Center Task Force
President Lynette Hampton called the meeting to order. As the new president Lynette began by listing the accomplishments of EAA to date.
This year’s meeting schedule includes a regular meeting every-other month and a Saturday morning mini-workshop in the alternate months. There are still some slots available for presenting a workshop. Workshops will be free to EAA members (excluding material costs) and will provide a great way for us to gather and DO art! Please find the meeting schedule attached – put it on the refrigerator – don’t miss any of them!!!
Elizabeth Sullivan gave the Treasurer's Report. The balance on January 1 was $520.58 and that is the current balance.
The list of suggested goals as compiled from members was shared in the form of a handout and discussed. Members will be asked to help in prioritizing the list prior to the end of January. Please find the list of suggested goals attached.
Based on the suggested goals Lynette prepared a list of suggested Committee activities to help give people an idea what type of work each committee might undertake. Members are highly encouraged to choose a committee (or 2 or 3) and begin working toward the goals. Please find the list of suggested Committee activities attached. To join a Committee you need only contact any board member. You will be most welcome!!
Cheridah Vaughn announced an Open Meeting regarding Pearls to be held on January 29th at 6pm at the Frontier Bank. Lynette said that all individuals with an interest in Pearls are encouraged to attend, but that as long as the litigation was unresolved EAA would not be involved. A separate notification of the Open Meeting will be sent.
A question from the floor prompted a discussion of Art Walk and the impact of the economy on this event. It was suggested that perhaps a periodic art show might be a good idea instead of “Art Walk” since there are an increasing number of closed businesses on Main Street. Lynette was asked to take this suggestion to the Art Walk group and she agreed to do this.
Lynette got an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response to the question from Dennis Sheehan regarding the possibility of creating murals in Elgin. The suggestion was made that multiple murals would be great, both in the historic downtown as well as along Hwy 290.
Lynette informed everyone that the “First Bloom” show is being planned. The show will be held in April (date to be announced) and everyone is encouraged to participate.
Elizabeth gave an update of participation in the Design Access "Meet the Artist Days." Each Tuesday they are hosting one or two artists to be available to visit with their customers and, if it is feasible, to be there working on their art during the day. There are still some dates which need a participating artist. For details contact Elizabeth at ecsullivanart@aol.com.
Welcome to new members Becky Kane, an associate and Bob Holder of Custom Art Décor. Welcome!!!
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
The next meeting of the Elgin Arts Association is Saturday, February 21 at the Elgin Public Library Community Room. This will be a mini-workshop “Sculpting a Female Head” in polymer Clay - everyone is welcome to attend! The workshop is free to members of EAA. Watch future emails for details and a supply list.
