EAA March 2008 News
March 2008 Meeting Minutes and Update
I heard the potluck March 18 was fabulous - great food and
wonderful company! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it; however,
our Treasurer, Cheridah Vaughn, was gracious enough to take notes.
President Michael decided everyone should start enjoying the
wonderful food and talk during dinner. Art Walk was the main topic
of conversation for the meeting. During the March Art Walk, Michael
was responsible for visiting the participating businesses and
artists to help ensure things were running smoothly, as well as
assist with directing visitors to the various locations. He relayed
some of the encounters he had with people on the street.
The discussion turned to EAA organizing a children's art contest to
be held during the April Art Walk to help get children more involved
in the event.
We discussed the various possible children's activities such as
painting, sculpting or whatever the "volunteer" for each art walk
comes up with.
Several questions came up during the discussion such as where this
could take place. Dave offered to find us an empty building to use.
He has already had offers from building owners that want to be
involved in art walks. There was also a question of who would pay
for the supplies for the program. It was mentioned that this
activity falls within the community benefit of our mission
statement. Patricia Rendulic planned to ask her daughter if she
would do face painting for the children's event.
Debbie Lundrigan made a motion to include a children's event during
the April Art Walk. Ava Barker seconded the motion and the motion
passed with a majority vote of those present.
Volunteers will be needed to take on this task at each art walk.
Many thanks to Sue Snelson, Ava Barker and Kristen Rendulic for
making the art contest so much fun for the kids April 12!
Meeting adjourned at approximately 8:30 pm.
HELP!!! We currently have 2 volunteers for removal of the airport
exhibit.
One more would help things run more smoothly. Removal is scheduled
for 9:00 am, April 22. Matt Coldwell, the airport art coordinator,
thinks it should only take a couple of hours. If you will be
available and willing to help pack up the exhibit pieces and return
them to Elgin, please email
lynette@lynettehampton.com with a subject line of AIRPORT
EXHIBIT. Thanks!
The Elgin Arts Association will meet at 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 17
