Meeting was called to order at 7pm by Lynette Hampton who welcomed
everyone.
The Treasurer’s report given by Sarah Page (Elizabeth Sullivan being out
of town). The current account balance is $7,185.66. Activity in the
account this month included memberships, left over petty cash from
Pearls (7.31) and the scholarship amount of $1400.
Sarah reported that the Clay Teapot workshop presented by member Leslie
Moore was very well done. 12 people registered and 10 people attended.
Leslie did a fine job and all the participants had a great time. The
workshop had 3 sessions, the first session actually making the teapot,
the second for glazing, and the third, to pick up pieces and have a tea
party.
Sarah additionally stated that the association needs to find someone
else to coordinate the workshops. She was asked to write out the tasks
involved and an email will be sent to request a new volunteer.
There is not currently anyone scheduled to present a workshop in April
or August. Elizabeth Sullivan is scheduled for June.
EAA partnered with the City of Elgin and helped with the Spring Break
Craft Day. Sarah reported that the event went very well and was attended
by about 80 people. Sarah presented 4 of the projects that were enjoyed
by participants. The biggest hit of those projects were the Hopi Indian
God’s Eyes and the collage. Elizabeth Sullivan had drawn animals on
butcher paper for 3 murals and participants enjoyed working together on
the murals. Pictures from this event should be available on the web site
soon.
Pearls Scholarship: On Monday last Elizabeth reported that no
applications for this year’s Pearls scholarship have yet been received.
She is planning to contact the school representatives and remind them of
the deadline (Which is April 2nd).
How to proceed if applications are not received was then discussed.
Following discussion Nancy Lou Webster made a motion that if there are
not sufficient applications to award 2 $1000 scholarships that money be
donated to the high schools for them to award $500 scholarships to the
deserving student(s) of their choosing who plan to take college level
courses in the Arts... The motion was seconded by Sunny Jewell and
passed by unanimous vote.
Pearls 2010: Lynette reported that Elizabeth is working on location. As
it looks now the participating artists will be asked to provide the
means (i.e. easel or stand) for displaying their work. Elizabeth is also
working to arrange a 2 week show instead of just the 3 days that has
been done in the past.
Lynette said that a timeline and request for volunteers will be
forthcoming and that this year we will have the opportunity to get an
earlier start on all that needs to be done.
Shirley said the she emailed Connie Clements about the Pearls pictures
on the web site and Connie was pleased. Sarah again thanked David Warner
for his help with the site. David did a grand job with the Pearls
pictures.
Sarah took the opportunity to welcome back members who renewed their
membership during the month: Dori West, Amy Miller (family membership
including Heather, Allen and Nancy) and Bruce and Rosemary Wentworth.
Welcome Back!
There being no further business Frank moved to adjourn at 7:30 pm, the
motion was seconded by Sunny and the meeting was adjourned.
Thanks to everyone for attending. Your support and involvement are
highly valued.
