EAA March 2011 General Membership Meeting

Sarah welcomed everyone at 7pm

Elizabeth gave the Treasurer’s Report

Pearl’s Scholarship Award:  The Pearls Before Swine 2011 $1000.00 Scholarship was awarded to Ellyn Rivers.  Ellyn brought some of her originals for us to enjoy and told us about each one.  What an amazingly talented and articulate young person!  Ellyn will be attending Seattle University next fall.  We all wish her well and hope she will come back to us.

Becky, Sarah and Elizabeth provided projects for the Spring Break art day.  All went well and the kids enjoyed the projects.  For the future, EAA plans to focus on the Farmers Market activities as our best forum for our mission.

River Valley Farmers Market:  Elizabeth told of the booth EAA had on March 19th and how well that went.  A booth is planned for April 23rd.

Other business:  An email was received from Ruth Hyatt regarding the artwork on display at their location.  Artists need to either change or pick up their artwork as the same pieces have been in place too long.

The business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 7:30.  Now for some fun!

Sarah started the Show and Tell with a new song titled “Sure I’ll Rise Up” written that very day.

Darcy shared with us some exciting events in her life, Songwriter Jane Gillman asked to use her work “Piscean Fantasy” on a new CD cover.  She brought the CD for us to see.  Lovely!  Darcy also told us of a new website she is working on and a blog as well.  Sarah will enter a link to the website on EAA’s site.  Darcy also brought a lovely painting to share that she framed herself.  Framing her work has been an additional challenge.  Well done!

Becky shared some performance art by presenting a work called “The Garbage Goddess” All eyes and ears were riveted during her performance and we all enjoyed the intelligent humor it contained!

Angela brought another quilt in progress.  How beautiful!  Such great use of color and shape.  Angela also tells us that she will be joining EAA with her daughter who makes beautiful greeting cards.  They are both looking forward to being able to have their work at the Farmer’s Market booth.  (You can see that Angela really stands behind her work!)

Ellyn showed her originals briefly again because not all of us were there to enjoy them the first time around.

Leslie got up on the stage next and shared with us an untitled poem that captured everyone.  Perhaps I’ll get Leslie to send me the poem so I can share it in written form.  You would all appreciate it.  Leslie also shared with us the polymer clay Easter basket she had made just that afternoon, complete with a hatching chick, a bunny and flower.  So CUTE!

Elizabeth first showed us a cartoon she had drawn for her accordion group’s poster.  Then she told us about the development of her “grandchild art” and showed us some of the results.  What a really fabulous thing to be able to capture and portray the creativity of a child!

Elizabeth brought the activity this time which followed closely on the discussion of her artwork with her grandchildren.  We each got to try the method she has used for teaching them how to draw!  Even Elizabeth was amazed how truly unique each of our drawings was.  We all had a great time, even Ellyn’s parents!  Those of us who don’t feel like we draw well ended up with something recognizable and even beautiful!  Thanks Elizabeth!!!

Thanks to everyone for attending!

What a fun group!
