EAA July 2007 News

Cheridah gave an update on the status of our application for non-profit status.  The adoption of by-laws at the June meeting was the first step in this process.  The Elgin Arts Association is now officially a non-profit association recognized by the state of Texas.  We also have a tax ID.  Now that these items are complete, we're focusing on the application for 501(c)(3) designation.

The board developed a dues structure and membership form, which was presented at the meeting.  A few minor revisions were suggested for the form; then the form and dues structure were approved by unanimous vote.  It was also decided that dues paid between now and the end of the year would be for membership through December 31, 2008.  Anyone joining between now and the end of the year would also be designated as a Charter Member.  A member would retain their Charter Member status as long as their membership is continuously renewed in upcoming years.  Even though the membership form was in its draft stage, we had several members join on the spot! The changes suggested during the meeting were incorporated into the membership form, and a copy is attached to this e-mail.  We will have printed copies available at the August 16 meeting.

We then discussed committee participation and the call for volunteers was answered enthusiastically by several individuals:   Events - Sarah Page, Ava Barker, Elizabeth Sullivan Newsletter - Dave Warner, Lynette Hampton Workshops/Classes/Education - Sue Snelson, Jan Knight (who wasn't able to attend, but volunteered via e-mail) Grant - Sarah Page Membership - This committee will consist of Charter Members   Many thanks to all our volunteers!  If you'd like to participate as a committee member, please contact any Board member or committee member.

Our next meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 16 at Kingfisher Gallery.  Seating is limited, please remember to bring a chair.   Bring a friend!  All area artists and supporters of the arts are welcome to attend.  You won't want to miss this meeting - a presentation from our Events Committee is on the agenda and they'll be asking for our input.  We'll also have some discussion about upcoming community events, including the Pearls Art Show and the Hogeye Festival.  A meeting reminder and agenda will be sent as the date nears. Please feel free to share the info - if you know someone who does not have e-mail or might not be on our e-mail list, please call them or print a copy of this e-mail for them. If you have a schedule conflict and will not be able to attend the meeting, please let us know and we will be happy to see that you receive a copy of any materials provided at the meeting.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact any Board member. For more information please contact Lynette Hampton at 512-278-0150 or 512-652-7725.
