EAA July 2009 News
July 16, 2009 Meeting Minutes and Update
The big event of this meeting was the transfer of the responsibility
and resources of the Pearls Art Show from the Pearls Committee to
the Elgin Arts Association. The Joint Resolution for Transfer of the
Pearls Art Show was signed by the officers of the Pearls Committee
and EAA who were present at the meeting. One officer from Pearls and
one from EAA were not present. Lynn Cottle, Treasurer for the Pearls
Committee, agreed to meet with the absent officers to get their
signatures, after which an original will be provided for EAA's
files.
Lynn gave a detailed account of the existing records and resources that were then entrusted to Elizabeth Sullivan.
Cheridah Vaughn was present and shared with us a first draft of a Pearls Art Show task list. Cheridah has volunteered to take the lead in organizing the Art Show portion of Pearls as she has for several years.
The biggest consideration for this year's show is location. In past years, Kingfisher hosted the Pearls show. Since Kingfisher has closed and the building is leased, we will need to find a new location. A larger facility would be needed to accommodate the show, the reception and auction.
Lynn urged us to consider having again, as they did last year, both a live and a silent auction. They believe this added to the proceeds brought in for the scholarship fund.
Lynn also suggested that we have an area dedicated to exhibiting recent works of past scholarship recipients.
Lynette and Sarah will use the task list to create a timeline to guide EAA volunteers in doing all that needs doing. There will be plenty of volunteer opportunities for the Pearls Art Show - we hope everyone will help support the show.
This year the Pearls Show celebrates it 20th year. Let’s make it fabulous!
After we all helped ourselves to some delicious food, Elizabeth reported that the EAA account balance is now $987.45.
Sarah passed out a list of 2009 EAA activities.
Mike Krone told us about the Children’s Art Program session he volunteered for at the library.
The August gathering is part 2 of Jan Knight’s clay workshop, August 15 from 10am – 1pm at the Elgin Public Library Community Room. Jan has graciously agreed to allow those of us who were unable to attend the workshop in June (part 1) to still participate and she will meet with us again a couple of weeks later. From all accounts this workshop (part 1) was fabulous. Those wishing to take advantage of this opportunity should email Sarah Page at earth_sing@yahoo.com.
The September meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 7 pm at the Elgin Public Library Community Room.
Welcome to new member, Sunny Jewell. Sunny is a photographer. WELCOME!!
